1 Definitions

In these terms, "DropBin", "we", "us" and "our" mean DropBin. "You" and "the hirer" mean the person or business who books the skip bin. "Bin" or "skip" means the 4m³ mobile skip bin supplied for hire. "Hire period" means the period the bin is on site, as set out in clause 2.

2 The hire & hire period

We supply one 4m³ mobile skip bin for a fixed hire period of 2 days — a genuine 48 hours from the time of delivery. We collect the bin after the hire period. If we collect the bin later than 48 hours, you are not charged for the additional time. Routine paid extensions are not offered.

The bin remains the property of DropBin at all times. You are hiring it, not buying it. We will collect the bin at the end of the hire period. Please make sure it is accessible for pickup on the agreed date.

Delivery and pickup dates are arranged when you book. We will do our best to meet the agreed times but cannot guarantee an exact hour of delivery or collection.

3 Pricing & payment

The hire price is $500 for a 4m³ skip, GST included. This covers delivery, the 2-day hire period, pickup and disposal of general mixed waste up to the included weight limit in clause 4.

Payment is arranged directly with us at the time of booking. Any additional charges — extra hire days, overweight charges, or charges for prohibited items — are payable after the hire, once known.

4 Weight limit & overweight charges

Each 4m³ skip includes a weight allowance of up to 600 kg of general mixed waste. This is the standard allowance for a bin of this size and covers most household and light renovation loads.

The bin is weighed when it is emptied. If the load is over 600 kg, an overweight charge applies to cover the additional disposal cost we are charged. The overweight charge is:

Overweight charge: $1.50 per kilogram over the 600 kg limit.

Because the load is only weighed after the bin is collected, any overweight charge is billed separately after collection to the card you used to book. By booking, you authorise DropBin to charge that card for any overweight amount once the weight is known. We will let you know if an overweight charge applies and how it was calculated. Keeping heavy materials to a minimum (see clause 6) is the easiest way to avoid it.

5 Prohibited & hazardous items

For safety and legal reasons, the following must not be placed in the bin:

  • Asbestos or any material containing asbestos
  • Liquids of any kind, including paint, oils, fuels and chemicals
  • Gas bottles, aerosols and pressurised containers
  • Batteries of any type
  • Tyres
  • Mattresses
  • Food waste, animal waste or other putrescible waste
  • Medical, clinical or contaminated waste
  • Acids, solvents and other hazardous or toxic substances
  • Radioactive material
  • Wet paint or paint tins containing paint

If prohibited items are found in the bin, you are responsible for all additional costs of separating, handling, transporting and lawfully disposing of them, including any fines or penalties we incur. Asbestos in particular must be removed and disposed of by a licensed contractor at your cost.

If we suspect prohibited or hazardous material in a bin: for everyone's safety we will not tow it. We will not handle or investigate the material unsafely; we will document the situation, contact you, and appropriate authorised or specialist removal may be required at your location. The trailer will only be moved once it is safe and lawful to do so. Any resulting reasonable specialist removal, disposal, remediation, re-attendance or other direct costs caused by the prohibited material may be your responsibility under these terms. We do not charge a fixed hazardous-waste penalty; costs reflect what is actually and reasonably incurred.

6 Heavy materials

Heavy materials such as soil, sand, dirt, rock, bricks, concrete, tiles and rubble are very dense and reach the weight limit quickly. To keep the bin safe to lift and transport, please:

  • Keep heavy materials to a small portion of the load — as a guide, no more than around two wheelbarrow loads;
  • Spread heavy materials evenly across the base rather than piling them; and
  • Contact us first if your job is mostly heavy material — a dedicated heavy-load arrangement may suit you better.

Loads that are too heavy to be lifted safely may not be able to be collected until reduced, and overweight charges under clause 4 will still apply.

7 Filling & overloading

Please fill the bin evenly and do not load above the rim. The lid or top edge must be able to close and the load must sit within the bin so it can be transported safely and legally on the road.

If the bin is overfilled, we may be unable to collect it until it is brought back within the fill line. You are responsible for any road, transport or EPA fines that result from an overloaded or unsecured bin.

8 Placement & access

You are responsible for providing safe, clear and legal access for delivery and pickup. The bin is placed on your property (for example a driveway or hardstand) where practical. Because our skips are trailer-mounted and road-legal, no council permit is required.

You may nominate a desired position for the bin — for example in your delivery notes — and we will do our best to place it there. Final placement is at our driver's discretion: the driver decides the safe, suitable and lawful position and may adjust or decline a requested spot that is unsafe, inaccessible, unlawful or unsuitable, contacting you if the placement cannot be completed as asked. Once the trailer is positioned we apply a wheel clamp to secure it. You must not move or reposition the trailer, and must not tamper with, cover or remove the wheel clamp. A combination lock is provided so you can secure the bin's contents — please keep the bin locked whenever you are not actively loading it, to reduce the risk of other people dumping waste in it.

Please make sure the placement area can bear the weight and that there is enough clearance for our vehicle. We are not responsible for damage to driveways, surfaces, overhanging structures or underground services caused by reasonable delivery, placement or pickup in the location you nominate.

9 Care, damage & liability

While the bin is in your care, you are responsible for it. You must not move it from where it is placed, and you should keep it reasonably secure. You are liable for loss of, theft of, or damage to the bin beyond fair wear and tear while it is on hire, up to the cost of repair or replacement.

To the extent permitted by law, DropBin is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from the hire. Nothing in these terms excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

10 Changes & cancellations

If you need to change or cancel a booking, please contact us as early as possible. We will do our best to accommodate changes to your delivery date subject to availability.

Cancellations made before the bin has been dispatched can be rearranged or cancelled at no cost. If the bin has already been delivered, the hire is treated as commenced.

11 Privacy

We collect your name, contact details and delivery address only to arrange and service your booking, including sending booking confirmations and updates by email and SMS. We do not sell your information. We handle your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

12 General
